I think he’s right, to a point. What I mean by that is, I don’t think all technologically advanced civilizations in the universe destroy themselves. Perhaps most? Perhaps half? We don’t even know for sure if life outside earth exists...but I think given the statistical probability of it, the number of habitable planets that exist, and the fact that we’d be arrogant to think we’re the only intelligent technologically advanced life in the entire universe. Evidence suggests that life is common out there in the universe. So why’s it so damn quiet? As Fermi once asked, “Where is everyone?”. I think a percentage of civilizations evolve beyond the biological into machines, AI, quantum machines. Look up Kardashev Scale. At that point there’s no need for faster than light speed interstellar travel because the entire galaxy could be traversed in just a few million years. I also think dark forest hypothesis plays a factor in it too. Maybe the universe isn’t empty. Maybe it’s teeming with life, but everyone is hiding and that’s why it’s so quiet out there. It would explain a lot. I’m not trying to solve Fermi’s paradox, just using logical prediction of known physics, time, space, and the predictability of technological advancement. I think the technological singularity is real, and it’s a big part of evolution. I think evolution is infinite and there’s no upper limit to “life” until you reach the quantum mechanical scale and that is governed by the laws of physics. Evolution likely has 3 logical stages, biological life, technological life, and quantum life. In that order, at exponentially faster rates through each stage. I call it the Quantum Life Hypothesis for lack of a better term and my rudimentary understanding of physics and the universe. It just seems logical to me given the advancement of technology is governed by physics and it’s exponentially fast, that biological life merges with technology and that becomes a new form of life. Then that advances exponentially into energy. I don’t believe for an instant that biological life is the pinnacle of life in the universe. I think the 3 stages of evolution govern all life, just like biological evolution governs all life on earth. Carbon based life, silicon based life, energy based life; in that order. That makes logical sense to me. If correct, This explains why everything is so quiet...we simply don’t have the tech to detect it, yet! And we’re not looking for the right kind of life, machines and energy based life. I think some civilizations do destroy themselves. But some survive and continue evolving into ever more advanced life forms until they finally consume all matter and energy in the universe. At which point the universe collapses into a singularity, then another big bang occurs and the cycle starts all over again in a new universe. I’m saying I think the universe is likely cyclical, could be conscious, it could be a neural network, it could be a simulation, all at once. None of these possibilities can be logically ruled out. Evolution is infinite and biological life is only the first stage of life. That’s my quantum life hypothesis. In a nutshell. I know, weird, huh? It just makes logical sense to me that this is how it works.
