It's not if, but when. The transition from biological to technological life is going to happen...if we don't destroy ourselves first. The AI singularity is the first big step in the transition. (I wrote at length about this in my Quantum Life Hypothesis; a thesis I have written and rewritten a million times) The gist is simple. AI (technology; the Great Filter) will help or hinder humanity. Humanity will either evolve or die. AI is (will be) more intelligent. Either we will merge with it, or it will surpass us and we may cease to exist, either by destroying ourselves with our refusal to evolve, or we will be destroyed by AI directly or indirectly by willful obsolescence.
